Police seek witnesses after shooting leaves man in critical condition

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police are asking for the public's assistance in solving a shooting from Monday evening that has a man fighting for his life in the hospital.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported the victim is in critical condition as a result of the shooting. The victim's name was not released.

Investigators said it happened on Jefferson Avenue, which is just off Plank Road, around 8:30 p.m.

A neighbor recalled what she heard.

"They had eight or nine children in [the house] last night," a neighbor said. "After my sister finished cooking, all we heard was shots ring out. We saw the [victim] in the driveway and I grabbed all the kids and put them in the car and took them away. I didn't get to see none of what happened. Everybody was in the blind. Nobody heard any words being passed, no yelling."

Detectives are hoping witnesses step forward to direct them to a suspect in the shooting.

The neighbor described the victim as quiet.

"[The victim] is always there. He's been a friend of the family for a long time. I've never even seen this man talk loud. I've never seen him act out of character. He cuts yards, he work on cars, he does little stuff to make his money. For somebody to do him, that is strange," the neighbor added.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
