AG asked to take over deadly shooting case allegedly involving police chief's son

ST. GABRIEL, LA (WAFB) - The district attorney for Iberville Parish has asked the Office of the Louisiana Attorney General to take over the case of a deadly double shooting that possibly involves the son of a police chief.

District Attorney Ricky Ward made the request Monday. Investigators believe Kevin Ambeau Jr., son of St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau Sr., was involved in the shooting.

Detectives said Dominic Dunbar, 26, and his brother, Rove Lodge, 30, went to a mobile home on Martin Luther King Parkway in St. Gabriel on May 10 to find the younger Ambeau's cousin.

Sheriff Brett Stassi Sr. said it is believed Ambeau fired his gun about four times. Dunbar and Lodge were killed.

The AG's office will now determine whether Ambeau will face charges or if the shooting was justified.

In the letter to Attorney General Buddy Caldwell, Ward mentioned a letter from the mother of the two victims requesting that the case be turned over to the AG's office for prosecution.
