BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Same-sex couples in Louisiana can now change their names on their driver's license.
The new software went online Monday at the Office of Motor Vehicles. It allows people same-sex couples to alter their license or their vehicle registration.
"They just need to bring in the proper documentation to the local Office of Motor Vehicles," said Lt. JB Slaton. "Basically, they need a copy of their marriage certificate, their marriage license. And they also need to bring in proof that they've changed their name through the Office of Social Security."
Officials said the offices have been updating their system to accommodate requests. Before Monday, Louisiana State Police said computer issues made it impossible to make a name change if the spouse was the same sex.
The move shows Louisiana agencies continuing to get in line with the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on same-sex marriage.
