BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The St. George Fire Department said a lapse in attention began a one-alarm fire on Seven Pines on Friday afternoon.
According to first responders, the fire began at about 1:00 p.m. when a man took his attention away from food that was cooking.
Byron Lewis, a resident at the home, explained that he tried to fight the fire as soon as it started.
"I was trying to get the fire out myself, so I ran to the back with my hosepipe," said Lewis. "My hosepipe has numerous holes, so it wasn't just shooting directly. I busted the window, and didn't feel any cuts due to the adrenaline."
One of the home's residents suffered a non-fire related injury and was treated at an area hospital.
