BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A police officer who cared for a young girl after a crash until EMS and family members arrived on the scene is receiving much deserved praise.
The Baton Rouge Police Department posted on Facebook that Sgt. Duke Staples arrived at a wreck Thursday night on Airline Highway at Goodwood Boulevard to find a 4-year-old girl who had lost her shoes walking around in an area covered in broken glass.
Officials reported the girl's mother and older sister were injured in the crash. They added Staples cared for the child and comforted her until a family member arrived to take care of her.
Her mother and sister were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not released by authorities.
BRPD stated it wanted to take the opportunity to recognize Staples for his service and kindness to a little girl who had just experienced a tragic incident.
