POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Pointe Coupee Electric Co-Op pumps out the electricity that is a source for life among client businesses and homes. But it's Pointe Coupee Relay for Life team is also electric with enthusiasm and creativity.
That's why the Co-Op is selling pretty t-shirts and bows as a fundraiser for cancer research and services provided by the American Cancer Society.
One look at the items for sale, and I said, "Hey, it doesn't hurt that Relay's color is also the color of the LSU Tigers!"
"Exactly," said Jill Copeland of the fundraising committee of employees. "It's actually an idea that Relay for Life already has. We're just kind of building on that. We're trying to make it involve the whole parish."
Copeland says the plan is for mayors of the major towns in Pointe Coupee to gather for a news conference on July 10th at 3 p.m. in downtown New Roads.
Their joint proclamation "...is gonna be set for September 25th; that's the day we ask everyone to wear their purple shirt and their purple bows,"she said. "We will be selling specially designed purple tee shirts and purple bows to businesses, schools, and individuals to purchase in order to Paint Pointe Coupee Purple."
How much will it cost? The pretty bows sell for $10 each. And the shirts are between $10 and $13, depending on size.
Orders for bows and shirts can be placed by calling Joanie Bishop or Jill Copeland at 225-638-3751 or 800-738-7232. Order forms will be made available after July 10, 2015.
