BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A trial date has been set for one of two suspects accused of killing a man over a cell phone.
District Attorney Hillar Moore said the second-degree murder trial of James Mills Jr., 20, of Baton Rouge, will begin on September 30.
He is suspected of killing Hancy Sanchez, 18, in October 2014. Detectives said they believe Mills and Jordan Harris, 19, shot Sanchez after planning to rob him.
Witnesses said Sanchez was smoking a cigarette outside his apartment on Bayou Fountain Avenue when he was approached by the teens. They added when asked for the password to his phone, Sanchez tried to take the phone back. According to witnesses, that's when the shooting happened.
Sanchez was takent to the hospital but later died.
Mills is accused of pulling the trigger, but denied doing so when he was questioned.
