EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police are investigating an early morning crash that killed a man from Mississippi.
According to State Troopers, the single-vehicle accident happened just before 1 a.m. on US 61 north of LA 64.
After an initial investigation, State Police say that a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 44-year-old Steve Byrd of Woodville, Mississippi was traveling southbound on US 61 when he failed to negotiate a curve. The truck then ran off of the road, struck a culvert and overturned.
Byrd, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unknown if Byrd was impaired at the time of the accident. A routine toxicology test was taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
