BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Police report that a man died after his car slammed into the back of an 18-wheeler.

30-year-old Oscar Bennett III, of Donaldsonville, died after he ran into the back of an 18-wheeler that was about to take a left turn while traveling Southbound on LA 3089 in Donaldsonville.

Police say that the driver of the 18-wheeler slowed his speed in order to turn left through the median cross over. Bennett, for unknown reasons, did not slow down and hit the big rig's trailer.

Bennett was unrestrained at the time, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries sustained in the crash.

Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers, and those results are pending.
