It will be a big day for former LSU All-American shortstop Alex Bregman after he agreed on Wednesday to a deal with the Houston Astros.
The contract includes a $6 million signing bonus. Bregman was selected No. 2 overall in the 2015 MLB Draft.
The signing bonus isn't the $7.4 million designated for that slot, but Bregman is expected to sign the deal Thursday in Houston and will pose with his Astros jersey for a news conference before heading off to the team's minor league system.
Bregman led LSU in runs scored and doubles his junior year and only made nine errors, as he helped the team to a birth in the College World Series.
Just before Bregman's agreement, the Astros officially announced the signing of former LSU pitcher Zac Person.
The Eunice native inked the deal, which included a $10,000 signing bonus. Person was selected in the ninth round at No. 259 overall.
He struck out 36 batters in 31 innings his senior season as a setup man out of the Tigers' bullpen.
