GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office is strongly urging vehicle owners to lock their doors following a rash of burglaries in June and is asking for the public's help in identifying suspects in the crimes.

Sheriff Jeff Wiley said there have been 48 reports of vehicle burglaries in the parish since June 1. He added the thieves made off with electronics, purses, wallets, cash and weapons.

Investigators said the areas targeted by thieves have been LA 73 and Airline Highway, LA 44 and LA 931, LA 621, Adam Templet Road, Joe Gautreau Road, Harry Savoy Road, Babin Road, LA 74, Stringer Bridge Road, George Lambert Road, and Beco Road.

However, surveillance cameras in various locations captured video of the suspects and deputies hope someone recognizes them.

According to Wiley, "99 percent" of vehicle burglaries in the parish involved cars that were left unlocked.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
