More than 600 students from across St. Mary Parish graduated from the D.A.R.E. program this year, according to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.
The 10-week-long program aims to teach school children the importance of resisting peer pressure, and the dangers of drug dependency. Graduates received certificates, stickers, and other memorabilia to celebrate their accomplishments.
Students are tasked to write essays and narratives explaining how they will use the knowledge learned from the D.A.R.E. program in everyday life.
Seven schools came together to graduate 630 students from the program, according to the SMPSO.
