New initiative aims to keep seniors cool amidst summer heat

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Thousands of East Baton Rouge seniors will get help in coping with the heat.

Two companies, Walker Investigations and First Financial, dropped off more than 500 box fans at the Council on Aging on Florida Boulevard on Friday. The council will then distribute those fans to seniors who need help keeping cool.

"We're providing fans for some of the seniors who do not have working air conditioners in their home," says Trudy Bihm, Information Assistance Director of the EBR Council of Aging. "They come down to the Council on Aging, do a quick assessment, and we give them a fan."

Along with the 500 that came in on Friday, the council says that the office will distribute thousands of fans later this summer.
