Louisiana woman celebrates her 100th birthday

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Margaret Alexander will celebrate her 100th birthday with family Saturday afternoon. She was born on June 21, 1915.

On the day Margaret was born, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its decision in Guinn v. United States 238 US 347 1915 which struck down an Oklahoma law denying the right to vote to some citizens.

German astronomer Wilhelm Gliese was also born on the same day as Margaret.

At the time of Margaret's birth, Woodrow Wilson was president and the U.S. population was 100,546,000. World War I was also going on, though America didn't declare war on Germany until 1917.

In 1915, the Boston Red Sox won the World Series and legendary Babe Ruth hit his first home run. Cornell was the 1915 NCAA Football Champions with a 9-0 record.

That year, the one millionth Ford automobile rolled off the assembly line. One of the first American feature films, D. W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation, came out in 1915.

Margaret also shares a birth date with Prince William, who was born in 1982.
