AMITE, LA (WAFB) - Police arrested a man in the shooting death of his neighbor Wednesday.
The Amite Police Department reported Jermaine Williams, 39, of Roseland, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Joshua Lee, 27. Williams is also charged with attempted second-degree murder for allegedly shooting at Lee's girlfriend.
Authorities said the shooting happened outside a vacant building on LA 51 near the Dollar General in Amite around 3 p.m.
Police Chief Jerry Trabona said investigators believe the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute of some kind.
According to police, Lee was working in the building while Williams was at the store next to it. They added when Williams walked out of the store, he saw Lee's girlfriend's car and said something to Lee.
Investigators said the two men then got into an argument. It is believed that's when Williams shot Lee five times with a semi-automatic pistol.
