BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Capitol Area Transit System has announced that they will be participating in the tenth annual National Dump the Pump Day by offering free bus rides.
National Dump the Pump Day was created by the American Public Transportation Association in June 2006 when gas prices reached $3 per gallon as a way of getting people to save money by using public transportation.
On Thursday, June 18, CATS will allow all riders to ride the bus for free. Also on that day, riders may get to see and ride some of the new buses that were ordered by the company last year.
The new buses were ordered in April 2014 and were not expected to arrive until later this year. They have arrived early and are already in use on existing bus routes.
CATS has ordered four more buses through the company's CATS Capitol Fund and are expected to arrive in 2016.
