Juneteenth festival celebrates ending of slavery with week of events

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Juneteenth Roots and Heritage Festival kicked off a week of festivities on Saturday in Baton Rouge.

The event celebrates the ending of slavery in the United States, dating back to 1865. It is the oldest nationally known event of its type.

Music, games, and other festivities were only the beginning of the celebration that will culminate on Juneteenth day, June 19.
