Sheriff Jeff Wiley said the last time Sanders checked in with the sex offender division of APSO to update his work registration, he told detectives he lived on Lambert Road in Gonzales. However, when a compliance check was done at the home on May 11, deputies learned he had not lived at that address for about six months. Sex offenders must alert law enforcement immediately if they change residences.
Sanders is known to officials as a "Tier I" offender, and he is also accused of a home invasion and theft in Gonzales that happened in April.
He was convicted in 2009 for carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Authorities say that Sanders was arrested eight times in the past for charges stemming from simple burglary, theft, domestic abuse battery, and failure to register as a sex offender.
Sanders was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail on failure to register, home invasion, and theft charges.
