BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - First Lady Supriya Jindal hosted an event at the Governor's Mansion to send some of the comforts of home to deployed Louisiana National Guard members.
First Lady Supriya along with the wives of several lawmakers packed care packages to send to the 1023rd Vertical Engineer Company from Oak Grove.
Soldiers will be getting everything from t-shirts to toothpaste to Zapps Potatoes Chips. It's a small gesture to say they have not been forgotten.
"It's amazing and a blessing to do this for these men and women who do so much for us," said First Lady Supriya. "To be away from their families for this long and protecting our freedoms that we have here in America, and represent Louisiana. They're doing a great job representing the people here as well."
Many of those currently in Afghanistan will be gone for more than a year.
