5 Tigers selected on Day 2 of MLB Draft

BATON ROUGE, LA - Five LSU players were selected Tuesday during the second day of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.

Senior catcher Kade Scivicque was chosen in the fourth round by the Detroit Tigers, senior infielder Jared Foster was selected in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Angels, senior left-handed pitcher Zac Person was chosen in the ninth round by the Houston Astros, junior outfielder Mark Laird was selected in the ninth round by the Philadelphia Phillies and senior third baseman Conner Hale was chosen in the ninth round by the Seattle Mariners.

A total of seven LSU players have been selected in the draft, which began on Monday and concludes Wednesday with Rounds 11-40. Junior shortstop Alex Bregman was selected in the first round Monday by Houston, and junior outfielder Andrew Stevenson was chosen in the second round Monday by the Washington Nationals.

Scivicque, a native of Maurepas, La., is one of three finalists for the Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation's most outstanding catcher. A first-team All-SEC and second-team All-America selection, he is hitting .347 this season with 20 doubles, six homers, and 45 RBI, and he has thrown out 18 runners attempting to steal.

Foster, a product of Lake Charles, La., is hitting .284 with 12 doubles, two triples, nine homers, 34 RBI and 36 runs, and he was voted to the 2015 SEC All-Tournament team.

Person, a product of Eunice, La., has made 30 appearances out of the LSU bullpen in 2015, recording a 2-0 mark and a 3.34 ERA in 29.2 innings with 10 walks and 34 strikeouts while limiting opponents to a .178 cumulative batting average.

Laird, a native of Monroe, La., is hitting .323 with nine doubles, one triple, one homer, 23 RBI and 53 runs. He is fourth in the SEC with 23 steals this season, and he was voted to the SEC All-Defensive Team.

Hale, a product of New Port Richey, Fla., is batting .343 with 17 doubles, three triples, four homers, 56 RBI and 49 runs. He is a 2015 first-team All-SEC selection, and he was named to the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional All-Tournament team.
