BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

US Sen. Dr. Bill Cassidy, R-Louisiana, who is also a former Louisiana state senator, spoke to the Louisiana Senate on Monday just before lawmakers started work on the floor.

He commended senators for working to hopefully fix this year's fiscal crisis.

"Thank you for your good work and what you're doing," Cassidy said. "Y'all are doing great work with a tough situation. We look to partner with you in the future. If you need to reach me, please call. And John [Alario], thanks for allowing me to speak."

Cassidy also updated his former colleagues on what he's pushing in Washington DC. He said he's working to bring Louisiana more federal dollars for coastal restoration.

The Louisiana Senate continues to take a closer look at next year's $24 billion spending plan.
