BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office has released the names of the victim and suspect involved in a murder that happened Saturday night on Skysail Avenue.

Detectives said John Parker, 21, of Baton Rouge, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon in the shooting death of his mother's boyfriend, David White Jr., 39. Investigators said White's child was also hit.

Deputies responded to reports of a man and juvenile shot on Skysail Avenue near Helm Drive around 7 p.m.

According to detectives, Parker and White got into a fight at their home and Parker grabbed a gun. Deputies reported Parker fired multiple shots, hitting both White and his child. It is believed Parker then ran away from the scene.

White and the child were both taken to the hospital where White later died. The child is expected to survive.

Parker was later arrested on Chimneywood Drive.

His bond has not yet been set.
