BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

On Friday, Governor Bobby Jindal signed into law an extra step for the state's Attorney General when using electronic surveillance.

The new law means investigators will have to get a court order to use their International Mobile Subscriber Identity Catcher, or IMSI catchers.

An IMSI can be mounted in a police vehicle or even in an airplane flying overhead and blanket scan cell phones in the area.

In the past, the 9News Investigators have looked into the high-tech devices that let cops search large numbers of cell phones.
