74-year-old man dies in two vehicle crash

BAYOU VISTA, LA (WAFB) -

State police say a Morgan City man died from injuries sustained in a two vehicle crash in Bayou Vista on Thursday morning.

74-year-old Ed Francis died from his injuries in the crash, which occurred on US 90 at Anthony Street in Bayou Vista.

A Louisiana State Police investigation shows that the crash happened when Robert Francis, 76, failed to heed a stop sign on the US 90 at Anthony Street intersection. Police say that Francis' car then drove into the path of a truck operated by 60-year-old Preston Broussard.

Robert Francis and another passenger were taken to Teche Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Ed Francis suffered critical injuries from the crash, and later died at the hospital. All three occupants of Francis' car were wearing their seat belt.

State police say that they do not know if any impairments played a factor in the crash. Officials took Robert Francis' toxicology samples and sent them to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Broussard passed a breathalyzer, showing that he was not impaired.

The crash is still under investigation.
