'Pineapple', mother arrested on prostitution charges

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two women from Memphis, TN were arrested Wednesday morning at the Sleep Inn just off of I-12 in Baton Rouge on charges related to prostitution and human trafficking.

Baton Rouge Police received a call from Child Protection Services saying a female known as "Pineapple" was soliciting for prostitution by using an internet site called Backpage and was possibly a minor. The caller from CPS also stated "Pineapple" was prostituting with another girl and her two small children.

An undercover officer made contact with "Pineapple," who has now been identified as 17-year-old Cheyenne D. Topps. Topps attempted to make a deal with the undercover officer to receive money in exchange for sexual acts. When the officer handed Topps money, he also showed her his badge and placed her under arrest.

It was revealed during the investigation Topps was traveling with 21-year-old Marissa L. Phillips and her children. Phillips and her children were found in the lobby of the motel.

Phillips denied any knowledge of the prostitution, but told police she and Topps were same sex partners.

The detective learned Phillips had been arrested for prostitution in the past.

Phillips' children were taken into state custody and Topps and Phillips were taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Marissa has been charged with promoting prostitution and human trafficking. Her bond has been set at $7,500. Topps has been charged with prostitution and her bond has been set at $5,000.
