Fire destroys trailer on Elliot Road, family left homeless

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A family is safe, but lost their home after an early morning fire.

The St. George Fire Department reported it happened on Elliot Road in Baton Rouge, which is off Hoo Shoo Too Road, just before 4:45 a.m.

Eldon Ledoux with SGFD said the first truck made it to the scene less than five minutes after receiving the call and crews reported the back of a trailer home was on fire.

Ledoux added the two adults and child living in the trailer had made it out without injury before firefighters arrived. Firemen were able to get the fire under control in a short time.

According to Ledoux, despite the fire being contained to a back bedroom, it is considered a total loss because the flames burned through an outer wall.

Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire, but reported the evidence points to it being accidental.

The Red Cross, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and EMS all responded to the fire to assist.
