BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A blue ribbon list of local and state leaders were in the South End zone boxes of Tiger Stadium Monday night for the "Toast to the Coast."
The event was a rally cry by the America's Wetlands Foundation for restoration programs to go full steam, for billions of dollars to be raised and for the state and federal government to unite.
The venue, Tiger Stadium, reminded those who attended, like Mayor Kip Holden and Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne, that every 45 minutes land the size of a football field washes away from the Louisiana coast.
AWF is leading the charge to bring action.
"We're expecting to get a real windfall of dollars from the Restore Act, BP money and the Go Mesa program with Louisiana looking to get Louisiana offshore revenue it's never gotten before," said Dardenne.
WAFB's Andre Moreau was honored by the AWF Special Achievement Award for his coverage of Louisiana's coastal issues
