BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Jared Poche' came within one out of firing LSU's second complete game shutout in a row, and Parker Bugg finished off the masterpiece with a strikeout to earn a save, as the Tigers beat North Carolina Wilmington 2-0 to advance to next weekend's Super Regionals. Poche' pitched eight and two thirds of six-hit scoreless baseball, striking out eight and walking just one. Alex Lange shut out the Seahawks Saturday night 2-0, striking out 12 UNCW batters.

Chris Chinea gave Poche' all the run support he would need with a second inning RBI double, scoring Andrew Stevenson, who reached on an error by first baseman Corey Dick with two outs. Stevenson advanced to second on a balk and came home on Chinea's shot down the third base line. LSU added an insurance run when Jake Fraley's two out single scored Chinea for a 2-0 lead. Fraley was 3-for-3 in the game and Chinea was 2-for-3.

Stevenson made the play of the game in the top of the fourth with a diving catch in left center, robbing Luke Dunlop of extra bases and an RBI. Stevenson then scrambled to his feet and relayed the ball to double up Gavin Stupienski off first base to end the Seahawks scoring threat.

Poche' (8-1) surrendered five singles through eight innings of work, and a double to Dick in the top of the ninth with two out, but the UNCW first baseman was stranded in scoring position when Bugg struck out pinch hitter Andy Austin to end the game.

LSU (51-10) will now host a best-two-out-of-three Super Regional series against UL-Lafayette starting Saturday. The times of those games are to be determined. The Cajuns beat the Rice Owls 5-2 to win the Houston Regional Championship game.

The teams met only once during the regular season when LSU beat the Ragin' Cajuns 8-6 in the Wally Pontiff Jr. Classic.
