BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge man was arrested Monday for allegedly knocking out a 76-year-old man.
Baton Rouge Police say that Charles James, 29, punched the 76-year-old after James had an altercation with a woman in his car. She left the car, and when the 76-year-old heard the woman scream, he tried to defend her.
Reports say that a struggle for the elderly man's cane broke out, ending with James allegedly punching the elderly man, causing him to fall and hit his head on a concrete parking block. The 76-year-old suffered a contusion to the back of his head, abrasions to his right arm, and bruises to his back.
James says that there was no physical altercation between him and the woman inside of his car, and that he was hit with the elderly man's cane twice before he retaliated.
The 79-year-old was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
James was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Battery, Second Degree Battery, and Cruelty to the Infirmed.
