BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Southern University Board of Supervisors narrowed the number of candidates who could be the next president and chancellor of the university system from six to three.
Six candidates were questioned by a special search committee made up of members from the Southern community. Dr. Albert Sam, who is the committee chair, says about 30 people applied for the job.
"We're looking for someone who has a commitment to the traditional mission that Southern has always lived up to," said Sam.
After the initial semifinal interviews, the 15-member search team narrowed the field to three finalists.
The following are the finalists for the Southern University Systems Chancellor/President position:
Ray Belton, chancellor of Southern University Shreveport,
Barrett Hatches, president and CEO of Chicago Family Health Center,
Ivory Toldson, deputy director of the White House Initiative of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The Southern University Board of Supervisors will interview the finalists during its meeting on June 12, and will name the new Chancellor/President at a later date.
