GOHSEP updates lawmakers on hurricane preparations

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - State lawmakers got an update on where Louisiana stands as people get ready for hurricane season.

The Governor's Office of Homeland Security (GOHSEP) briefed a House committee Wednesday on their efforts to make communication better during a storm or other disaster.

"We're doing a lot of training with the local parishes with respect to social media, to be able to capture that and use it, and then also be able to give information out on our facebook and twitter," said Kevin Davis, Director at GOHSEP.

Representative Clay Schexnayder, R-Gonzales, said the state is not doing enough to make sure communications systems stay up and pointed out a lack of communication during Hurricane Isaac.
