BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police arrested a 17-year-old female Tuesday night after an 18-year-old male was shot in the torso.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Mekiyah Davis told police she was asleep with the shooting happened and did not know details. Police say multiple people were in the room at the time of the shooting. One of the witnesses, who initially fled the scene, was located by police and learned Davis was playing with the gun when it went off.
Davis allegedly sent a text message to the witness, telling them to change clothing so they would not be found.
The victim was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
Davis was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of negligent injury and obstruction of justice. Her bond has not been set at this time. During her interview with police, she admitted to initially lying to police and she also admitted to playing with the gun when it went off. Detectives also say Davis admitted to sending the text message to a witness in hopes they would not be found.
