BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Memorial Day monument at the Capitol Building honors the men and women who died in the line of duty.
11,000 American flags are placed along Huey Long's grave and the capitol steps until Monday night. Each flag represents a Louisiana soldier who died in combat. They were placed there by the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, an organization of mothers who have children serving in the armed forces.
A Cub Scout leader from Memphis says that he was moved by the display. "I definitely want the younger generations to understand the sacrifice that our service men and women give," says Tim Gardner.
The flags will be removed on Monday at 6 p.m. to a performance of Taps.
