Baton Rouge Police have arrested a Denham Springs couple in connection to a home invasion.

38-year-old John Lopez was charged with attempted second degree murder and home invasion. His wife, 31-year-old Chelsea Lopez, was charged principal to home invasion and principal to attempted second degree murder.

Police say John forced his way into a home in the 4900 block of Jamestown Avenue around 11 p.m. on May 21 and confronted the resident.

Police say John got into a fight with the resident, who tried to defend himself with a baseball bat, and shot the victim multiple times.

Lopez then went back out to the Yukon and fled the scene with Chelsea, who was driving the vehicle.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he is expected to survive.

The victim told police that he and Chelsea were in a relationship and that he had ended the affair the day before when her husband informed the victim on Facebook that he knew of their relationship.

According to police reports, Chelsea said she had driven John to the house and knocked on the victim's rear carport door claiming that she "was only picking up her prescription that she had left at his residence" moments before John kicked in the front door. She admitted to police that she heard the fight and gun fire, and didn't contact police after the incident.

John Lopez was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center. He is expected to be transferred to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
