PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A worker was electrocuted by a live power line while installing cablevision and internet lines along Old Jefferson Highway in Ascension Parish Thursday.

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 42. The man was inside of a bucket truck when he came in contact with the lines, investigators said.

A spokeswoman for COX Cable says the man, employed by CableWorks, was working as a contract employee for COX at the time.

"We are very saddened to learn of this and our thoughts and prayers are with his family," said COX Public Affairs Manager Sharon Souther Bethea. "We are working with our contractor and law enforcement officials to determine what happened."

Prairieville Fire Deputy Chief Ray Poche' said 38-year-old Courtney Jones of Yazoo, Mississippi, was stringing new cable in an area that has heavy vegetation when he came in contact with the power line.

"He was facing away from the power line that he hit so he never saw it," Poche' said.

When rescuers arrived, the man was found dead in the bucket portion of the truck. Power had to be cut to the area in order to recover the man's body, Poche' said.

A manager at CableWorks says the man's family has been notified of his death.
