BAKER, LA (WAFB) - A Baker man accused of kidnapping and raping another man was arrested Wednesday.
According to a warrant from the Baker Police Department, the victim told police an unknown man in a Dodge Ram pickup approached him while he was at the intersection of Mississippi Street and Jackson Street in Baker on March 31, 2015.
The man, now identified as 32-year-old Maynard Lazar Haile, asked the victim to get into his truck. When the victim refused, the warrant states Haile reached for a baseball bat and threatened to harm him and his family if he didn't get in the vehicle.
Once in the vehicle, the victim was forced to perform sexual acts while Haile was driving, according to the victim's statement.
The warrant states Haile then drove the victim to an abandoned residence in Baker. Once there, Haile took the victim behind a metal shed in the backyard. Haile then reportedly began raping the victim, but stopped abruptly because he was worried he would get caught by the children playing nearby.
Haile then drove the victim to a grocery store on Main Street, where Haile bought several items and paid for them with his own credit card.
Haile then took the victim back to the intersection of Mississippi Street and Jackson Street and dropped him off and left.
Police were able to identify Haile because of surveillance video at the grocery store and information from the credit card transaction.
Haile was arrested and charged with aggravated rape, oral sexual battery and second degree kidnapping.
