Authorities said a LaPlace man is dead after getting hit by a train early Wednesday morning.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported it happened on LA 73 just south of Airline Highway in Gonzales around 3:45 a.m.

Lt. Col. Bobby Webre with APSO said that 24-year-old Bontrion Toliver of LaPlace was struck and killed in the train accident. Toliver recently moved to Louisiana from Dallas, Texas with his family.

Webre added in a written release that "it is unclear why Toliver was in Prairieville, and there was no vehicle present at the scene."
