BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Children may never willingly darken the doors of a ballet concert, but a taste of the art this summer might inspire new fans.

Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre has a Youth Ballet of young dancers, ages 10 to 14, who will perform their own program for children in libraries across the Baton Rouge metro area.

Using music by Jacques Offenbach, BRBT dancers will portray the story of a quiet summer day in a Parisian park that gets turned upside down. An organ grinder's monkey causes a woman's jeweled bracelet to go missing and a handsome painter becomes separated from his young love. "High Jinx in Paris" was directed and choreographed to be funny. It was directed by Rebecca Acosta and Susan Perlis. This program gives young dancers the opportunity to improve technique and develop performance skills, while sharing their talents with the community.

The Youth Ballet's Summer Tour begins June 1 and continues through June 12. The group will do a fundraising performance of the show on Saturday, June 6 at 1 p.m. at the Dancer's Workshop, which is located at 10745 Linkwood Court in Baton Rouge. Admission will be $10 per adult (ages 15 and older) and $5 per child (under 15).

Why not take your kid to a performance for exposure to what ballet is? Performances are free.
