BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A memorial service was held Friday morning to honor law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
The service took place at the Peace Officers' Memorial Plaza in downtown Baton Rouge next to the Old State Capitol. It was sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police, Baton Rouge Lodge #1.
The names of fallen officers were called out by several agency leaders.
"The monument sums it up really well. It tells us that we can never ever forget their price. It tells us that we can never forget their name. Please dear god, please dear god may their names be the last," said Col. Mike Edmonson with the Louisiana State Police.
"We will never forget them. They died while watching over our spouses, our parents, our sons and daughters. We will be forever grateful," said East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux.
