Baton Rouge student is statewide standout

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Scholastic, the company that brought your kids Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Harry Potter, and Captain Underpants, has chosen a Baton Rouge boy as outstanding in the entire state of Louisiana.

Cameron Gordon is a seventh-grade student at Southeast Middle School on South Harrell's Ferry Road in Baton Rouge.

The national 180 Student Award seeks just sixteen students between 3rd and 12th grade for honors.

The idea is that a student like Cameron has achieved beyond all others at improving his math and reading comprehension. There are not winners in all 50 states, no, just 16, and Mr. Gordon has done Baton Rouge proud.

This bright-eyed young man, surely, will have many more honors ahead in his life, but winning from the Scholastic company includes a $1,200 cash prize.
