Wallace, Saldivar named to All-SWAC second team

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A pair of Southern University seniors capped their final baseball season earning All-SWAC second team honors Tuesday.

Pitching ace Santos Saldivar and outfielder D.J. Wallace helped lead a young and inexperience Southern team to a 17-22 record after a 3-15 start and a 13-8 conference record.

Wallace leads the Jaguars with a .357 batting average (.375 in SWAC play) and is tied for the team lead in hits with 45. The Covina, Calif. native has belted out eight doubles, three triples, and seven homeruns. During the Jaguars 3-game sweep of Grambling, Wallace went 9-15 at the plate earning him the league's hitter of the week honor for week 13.

Saldivar earned SWAC Pitcher of the Week twice during the season and set a new single season strikeout mark with 104 Ks. Saldivar (4-6) leads the team with a 2.54 and has four games with double digit Ks including a career high 16 in a 4-3 win over SWAC west division champion Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Wallace and Saldivar were each preseason All-SWAC selections.
