BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge Police say two people have been arrested in connection to the shooting death of 20-year-old Cameron Matthews. Matthews was found shot to death in the middle of E. Grant Street at Tennessee Street just before 4 a.m. Monday.

When police arrived, they found Matthews had been shot in the head.

Police say around 11 p.m. Monday, 19-year-old Cory Handy of Norwood, La., and 20-year-old Cody Sanders, of Zachary, La., were arrested in connection to the shooting.

Detectives say the shooting happened after an argument.

In a probable cause affidavit, Sanders told police that he, Handy and Matthews were driving around together. Sanders and Handy got into an argument with Matthews and told him to get out while on E. Grant Street. The affidavit says Handy handed Sanders a black semi-automatic pistol and told him to shoot Matthews. Sanders took the gun and fired the weapon at Matthews. Matthews was fatally shot three times.

Sanders and Handy left Matthews in the middle of the street and drove off.

In the affidavit of probable cause for Handy, he told police he stopped his car on E. Grant so he could urinate in the street. Handy says Sanders and Matthews got out of the vehicle. Handy said he suddenly heard gunshots and when he looked up, he saw Sanders standing over Matthews with a gun in his hand. Handy said he and Sanders quickly got back into the vehicle and drove off. He said he did not know why Sanders shot Matthews.

Handy and Sanders were both booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of 2nd degree murder. No bond has been set at this time.
