BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Big changes are officially underway at Southern University as the Jaguar nation broke ground Monday on the new sports complex.
A group of distinguished men gathered on the Southern campus for the the official ground-breaking of Jaguar Park. They had gold shovels on hand for the True Blue Southern University System Foundation members to use.
The new sports complex will finally fix all the problems the football and soccer programs have been dealing with for years. It will provide an adequate practice facility for football, a lighted soccer field and a place for throwing events at track & field meets.
The complex will also be a coaching observation tower and a soccer field house. It will be enclosed by mesh and aluminum fencing and 40 connecting brick columns.
The facility should be completed by August 2015 on the east side of A.W. Mumford Stadium.
