ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Three seniors in Ascension Parish have been awarded an academic scholarship from the Louisiana Sheriffs' Scholarship Program.

Sheriff Jeff Wiley awarded Jade DelValle of Dutchtown High School, Jason Williams of Donaldsonville High School and Tyler Broussard of St. Amant High School a $500 dollar scholarship on behalf of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Scholarship Program.

The Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program provides the scholarships to graduating high school seniors from each parish where the Sheriff is an affiliate of the program.

Scholarship winners are chosen based their qualities such as academic achievement, leadership and character.

Applicants must be permanent residents of the state and plan to be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at a college or university in the state.

"Academic awards by the state of Louisiana Sheriffs' Scholarship Program to Louisiana students demonstrate what the LSHMP is all about," says Sheriff Wiley. "This is one of our finest accomplishments that invests in Louisiana's future and gives something back to our community. This would not be possible without the kind and generous support of Ascension Parish's Honorary Members."

The scholarships will be awarded to students in 63 parishes throughout the state.
