BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

An overnight apartment fire leaves a mother and her family searching for shelter on Mother's Day.

St. George and the Baton Rouge Fire Departments were dispatched to the fire at 3:20 a.m. on Toulon Drive near Sherwood Forest. Reports say that firefighters arrived to see flames shooting from the roof.

"It's a terrible way to start a Mother's Day,” says landlord Curtis Tureau. “Goodness, getting waken up at three in the morning and your place is full of smoke, you have to grab your daughter and run. I mean, it doesn't get any worse than that."

No one was hurt in the fire, and Red Cross is helping the family out for the time being.
