BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Chris Chinea had a run-scoring double and a two-run homer to back the pitching of freshman Alex Lange, who also got some great defensive help beating Missouri 8-2 Saturday night.
LSU (41-8, 18-7) took the series and a one game lead in the overall SEC standings, after Vanderbilt lost to Florida 9-7 in ten innings earlier in the day. Lange pitched a two-hitter over seven innings, allowing just one run and striking out eight. Chinea put the No.1 Tigers in front 1-0 in the second with a two-out RBI double off Mizzou freshman Tanner Houck, and scored to make it 2-0 on Chris Sciambra's triple.
Chinea gave Lange all the support he would need in the fourth with his team-leading eighth round tripper to make it 4-0.Third baseman Conner Hale added two hits, two runs batted-in and a spectacular catch in the third inning, hanging over the railing in front of the visitor's third base dugout to retire Jack Klages.
Andrew Stevenson added an over-the-shoulder catch in deep center field in the same inning, and shortstop Alex Bregman capped the brilliant display of defense by bare-handing Brett Peel's soft grounder and firing to first in time to get the final out.
Missouri (28-24, 14-12) will try to avoid the sweep on Sunday at 2:00pm in the series finale.
