ZACHARY, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police said a woman was killed after getting thrown from her car when it went off the road Sunday evening.
The victim was identified as Carrie Lipscomb, 25, of Zachary.
Troopers reported the crash happened on Greenwell Springs Port Hudson Road (LA 64) north of Joor Road in Zachary around 7:15 p.m.
They said the initial investigation showed Lipscomb was not wearing a seatbelt while driving a 2009 Nissan Maxima on LA 64. They added they don't yet know why, but the car went off the road.
Investigators said the car then went into a ditch, hit a culvert, hit a tree and flipped. They said it is believed Lipscomb was ejected during the rollover.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office.
Troopers added they don't suspect the driver was impaired, but per protocol during deadly highway crashes, a sample of her blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The accident is still being investigated.
