Man arrested in connection with armed robbery, rape at home on Tams Drive

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery and rape at a home in Baton Rouge

Police say around 3 a.m. Friday, a man and a woman were sleeping in the back bedroom of a home in the 12500 block of Tams Drive when they were awaken by the sound of someone kicking at the back door. Once the suspects kicked in the door, the female says she was grabbed by one of the suspects and taken into the bathroom. There she watched one of the suspects repeatedly hit her boyfriend in the head with a gun while asking him for money and the keys to his SUV. The other two suspects then ransacked the house looking for other items before finding the keys to the victim's SUV.

One of the suspects then took the female victim into the front of the house where she was forced to perform oral sex and then took her to another bedroom in the house and raped her.

Another male and female sleeping in another bedroom were awaken by the noises in the house and called police. The male then armed himself with a gun. When two of the suspects entered the room, the male shot at them hitting one of them. That is when all three suspects fled the residence.

The suspect who was shot during the robbery was dropped off at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm. He was later identified as 23-year-old Willie McCormick.

McCormick's clothing matched the description of the suspects. He was arrested by BRPD and questioned about his gun shot wound. McCormick claimed to have gotten shot while being robbed at the Circle K on Coursey Boulevard. He then later claimed he was shot while buying drugs.

DNA taken from McCormick was matched to the DNA collected at the crime scene.

McCormick was taken to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with aggravated rape, aggravated assault and armed robbery.
