Every LSU starter had at least one hit as LSU (40-7, 16-6) overcame an early 1-0 MSU advantage. Alex Bregman led the way with a 3-for-5 night and three RBI. Conner Hale also contributed three RBI less than 24 hours after delivering the game-winning blow in Thursday night's 14-inning come-from-behind win.
Alex Lange (8-0) picked up the pitching victory going six innings, allowing six hits and all four MSU runs. Hunter Newman pitched three scoreless innings to earn his fourth save and close out Mississippi State (23-24, 7-16).
Hale's third inning single scoring Jake Fraley gave LSU a 2-1 lead, and the Tigers used a four-run fourth to blow open a close game. Bregman had an RBI double and Hale followed with a run-scoring single. Kade Scivicque and Andrew Stevenson also drove in runs during the rally.
Lange ran into trouble in the fourth, allowing three Bulldogs runs to make it 6-4, but Mississippi State never got closer than that. LSU took a 7-4 lead into the ninth inning and used another four-run explosion to put the game out of reach.
LSU goes for the sweep on Saturday at 3:00 in Game 3 to be televised by ESPN2.
