Saints draft Andrus Peat with 13th overall pick

Chicago, IL (WAFB) - The New Orleans Saints drafted Andrus Peat with the 13th overall pick of the first round.Peat, 6'7", 316 lbs, is an offensive tackle from Stanford where he started the final 27 games.

In 2014, the first-team All-Pac-12 selection opened every contest and was selected a first-team All-American by The Sporting News,

and

and earned second-team honors from the Associated Press.

"We feel like not only is he a good young athlete, but his upside, we feel, is tremendous, good size, great makeup, good character," head coach Sean Payton said. "He has versatility to play either tackle position."


Peat's father also played in the NFL for six season. Todd Peat played with both the Cardinals (1987-98) and the Raiders (1990, 1992-93).  

The Saints were 7-9 last season and missed the playoffs. New Orleans entered the NFL draft with 9 picks, two of which are in the first round.
